A personal statement on Israel now

I am currently in Israel. The end of the first week I arrived the 3 Israeli boys were kidnapped. I prayed for them, so did our nation of Israel.

When we got news they were found murdered, there was immeasurably sorrow, because as a Jew my fellow Jew is my family. It was as if we all lost our brothers.

Tension has been high here. Thank god I am studying in Jerusalem and the sirens havnt been going off too much. That is to say I still pause at moments to listen to the noises around me to know if I need to run from where I am to a bomb shelter and wait until I hear the boom from the iron dome destroy a rocket being sent from gaza or wait to hear the bomb hit the ground.

To all my friends talking about the “genocide” in gaza, they can’t see their own anti semitism. Israel has remained mostly unharmed because our government cares about it’s civilians. They build bomb shelters, hospitals, and stay organized to protect their people.

Ask your selves, why does Hamas spend their funds on rockets instead of bomb shelters, hospitals and educations for their people? Because their number 1 cause is killing Jews.

If a rocket sent by Hamas into Israel killed me, their would be celebration in gaza because they killed another Jew and for them that is a victory. In that way I do sympathize with innocent people living in Gaza that have become homeless, injured or killed in the recent times because their government cares more about killing Jews than protecting their people.

Don’t get your facts mixed up. If you want to advocate for Palestine that is your right, but don’t think denouncing Israel and spreading erroneous rumors you read from twitter about the IDF and Israel be your guiding light.

Care about humanity, not a cause that’s trendy on college campuses.

Jews have been targeted through out history and thank god we prevail. Mark Twain muses on the immortality of the Jewish nation and with good reason.

My one ‘thing’

I’ve been seeing lots of posted articles about Israel and palistine and from people I wouldn’t have expected it from. I’m not one to say who has a correct opinion or not, I am one to say media is a bitch. If we can barely trust accredited media sources, how is a personal essay written on a blog by activists with a mission and extremely biased writing to be trusted as fact. It can’t be.

Go to accredited news sites. Lots of them. Not just one. Read read read. Fact check.

I am currently in Israel and life was tense for a few days here last week. And filled with grief. But a beautiful thing happened, unity across a nation, positivity, strength of a people who are more like family than strangers.
